Author/journalist/publisher/ historian Lisa Swickard began her writing career in 1982, after earning a journalism degree from Bowling Green State University.
She is the owner of Virgin Alley Press, a small publishing company based in Tiffin, Ohio. In the 1980s, Swickard was an award-winning reporter at the Tiffin Advertiser-Tribune.
By the mid 1990s, she and her former business partner, Tricia Valentine, penned six local history books and co-published the popular ZIG ZAG Magazine, a periodical that focused on lesser-known history around the Buckeye State.
In 2010, Swickard struck out on her own and published the two-time award-winning book Calamity and Courage: Tiffin's Battle During Ohio's Deadly 1913 Flood. The following year, she released the companion book Weathering the Extremes: Seneca County's Other Floods & Deadly Heat Wave. That was followed by a full-color coffee table book — with co-author John Huss — that chronicles in photos the day-to-day controversial demolition of the historic 1884 Seneca County Courthouse. In her latest book, Swickard again teamed with Valentine to present REWIND: The Best of ZIG ZAG Magazine, which contains fascinating stories from the popular historical newspaper the duo published for more than a decade.
In addition to her career as an author, Swickard founded the popular Haunted Tiffin Ghost Walk in 2014. These after-dark tours focus on "fascinating history you didn't learn in school." Narrated by Lisa Swickard who is often accompanied by fellow historian John Huss, history meets the paranormal when psychic Lindsey Lawson brings her incredible expertise to the table. All have at least 30 years experience in their fields. The team often is joined by sensitives Suzie Feasel and Carol Moore. These walks are the only ghost walks in this part of the state that offer a team of professionals in their respective areas. Learn more at hauntedtiffin.com.
Swickard also offers daytime, non ghost tours at Epic Tiffin Excursions. Visit epictiffin.com for more information.
